My favorite fish and the weird things they do

Kasia Blasik has been in the aquarium hobby for over 10 years and is fascinated by freshwater nano species. She has been documenting her journey on her Youtube channel "Creative Pet Keeping" which has 93,000 subscribers and over 16 millions views worldwide. Her mission is to encourage new fishkeepers to explore the hobby and her videos help guide and inspire them along the way.

As a life long aquarist, Greg Steeves is known for his fascination with the family cichlidae, in particular haplochromine cichlids. He has written three books, authored many articles in a dozen languages and speaks on the subject internationally. Together with Lee Ann (Mrs. Steeves), they maintain a fairly large collection of cichlids, catfish and other lineages of aquatic creatures. Greg is the founding member of the Hill Country Cichlid Club and president of the Federation of Texas Aquarium Societies (FOTAS). He is a fellow of the Haplochromis Society based in France as well as the Cichlidroom Companion for whom he has contributed nearly since its inception. He considers his greatest accolade his association with the CARES Conservation Program where he coordinates the Lake Victoria cichlid species.

His love of cichlids and people, together with his message of conservation can be heard (with an ever present humorous undertone) loud and clear on his internet radio show called “Let’s Talk about Cichlids”.

Greg and Lee Ann travel to fish events around the country whenever possible meeting old friends and making new ones at every stop. Fish and fish people are a large part of his life as is spreading his message about the joys of working with haplochromine cichlids and the importance of ensuring that they survive for the next generations to enjoy.

An active hobbyist for over 40 years. It all started with one goldfish won at a carnival.  This one bowl eventually grew to a 55 gl tank which housed two 14 " Oscars.   Even though he has kept and bred a variety of fish "Cichlids" are still his favorite. 

Sal's tanks grew along with his breeding skills, and 40 years later he currently has 17 running tanks, which range from 10 to 125 gallons. Four of the tanks is devoted to communities of Lake Tanganyikan Cichlids, and five house several varieties of Apistogramma species, Sal's favorite. The remaining tanks contain a variety of cichlids from West African to tetras, bettas  and a new found love “fancy plecos”.

Sal joined and became very active in the Norwalk Aquarium Society in 1975, where he has held every position in the club and presently serve as  the program chairperson.  Sal's notoriety has spread far and wide, as he has generously shared his knowledge and wisdom during many speaking engagements throughout the Northeast and Europe. He has also written many articles and honored with reprints in ACA's Buntbarche Bulletin and society magazines across the country and abroad.
