They are still small, but my male is coloring up. They are still killing many other fish. I really need to move them to a larger tank.
Could you do them in a 55, probably, but crowd them.

I'd love an update and some pics if you have time.
I might be getting my hands on a 55g, would that be good for some of these?

I saw your conversation with 'sid'... I would love to chat with that guy over a beer someday. If the female is left alone with the young, I understand that the babies will interact fully with the mother.
BTW, there is a free shipping auction on AB with C. horei from Anthony & SI Cichlids. If they are tearing it up already, you may want to snag some more while they are available!

The "Jewel of the Rift" movie shows it very clearly. That is where my interest in this fish came from.

Is it common for them to do that in captivity? I know Konings has some phenomenal pics of them doing that in the wild. I'll try to get some vids of that. That would be fun.

When they spawn, see if you can get any video action of the fry going in and out of the mother's mouth!

Great. They've grown a bit and are starting to color up. The killing has began to be less and less and I hope it will stay that way. They are still a few months from breeding.

I kept mine with tropheus and an aggressive jumbo cyp. They duked it out head to head...

They dithers/targets are larger. Still, the Ctenochromis kill them. I'm just worried about when they turn on each other when they grow to adults. They also ripped a pond snail about the same size out of a shell and were eating it, which was pretty cool.
