Shipping an aquarium is a royal pain in the a$$.

I have an old high school friend who lives in Chicago.  He's been down on his luck for many years.  He loves aquariums.  I decided to buy him a new 29 gallon tank (along with all of the accessories) for Christmas a few years ago.  I bought the accessories online and had them shipped directly to him.

But I bought the aquarium (+ the lights and hood) at the local PetsMart and presented it to him when he came home to see his parents.  He had taken Amtrak and didn't think he could carry it back by himself.  So he asked me to ship it to him.

I took it to the local UPS Store to arrange for packing and shipping.  It cost me another $75 or so.

It didn't make it unscathed.  When it arrived, Phil told me that it looked like somebody had put his foot through it.

Bottom line, the insurance reimbursed me for less than half of the combined merchandise and shipping cost.  I ended up buying a replacement aquarium at PetsMart and delivering it to him in person the next time I traveled to Chicago.

Yea shipping a glass tank cost more than the tank itself atleast now it does.  After countless pet stores I finally found one that carries tank size I was looking for picked it up today.
30 gallon standard for skinks . The pet store will be only one I ever buy from while in this state .

Thanks I would have been more than happy to pay whatever it was for tank of certain specifications . Yes the shipping is insane putting that aside a glass tank via postal-ups-fed ex is cracked glass .

Your lucky your able to build tanks as few can do it without water winding up on the floor. If I had that skill would sell locally esp in fish clubs.

When I lived in NY a guy in my fish club built tanks mostly low wide tanks and unusual table top sizes like tall ,etc tanks you cant buy .
He would deliver them at fish club or pick ups he sold a lot of tanks to club members and other club members . I found someone in area but its acrylic and dont want acrylic.

            Thanks
