In June I set up one of these 55 gallon blue bins that I got from "Tank" on our classifieds. I put it next to my house, and it had around 6 hours of direct sunlight before shade creep over. In there I put 4 breeding size Geophagus brasiliensis together with pair of my Aequidens metae - that I'm desperately trying to spawn.
Few days ago I did 80% water change, and after I drain the tank, I took a few shoots of my fish that were outside whole summer.
I'm also including some pictures from same fish while they were inside in the tank.

So I say to her……There is plenty of stuff at the house for the baby to eat!!!! I REALLY need this fish……

Quality stock
Qualify environment - substrate, lighting background, tank mates
All IMHO heavily influence a fishes color - depending upon the fish some may be more some may be less.
Yes they will all get colors by 1 to 2 years old and in the middle of spawning.
We know putting leluipi fry against the wrong color sand makes the fry turn drab brown.
We know putting fish in the sun helps with the sun
When I was raising a bunch of peacocks I often had fully colored dominant fish by 2.0 to 2.5 inches, occasionaly you get one coloring at 1.5 inches as long as he was boss of the fry tank.

I have a few tanks full of peacocks, with no lights, just ambient light, and my males are very drab.
Jimmy I used to breed these all the time(sunshine and Red Shouldered) for mine it did not matter if I had light on them or not they were brightly colored. Most Peacocks are plankton eaters and deeper water with little sunlight from my reading experience. So I would feed Plankton,Krill and sinking pellets but would also feed frozen food like Julian Sprung saltwater food as a treat.
It would also take them at least a year before full color.

To read about different foods, the best place is to go to oscarfish.com and they give their ratings on food, ingredients, quality etc etc.. Very informative. We have fed NLS and my green flake mix of vegies and spirulina exclusively for the last 10 years.

You have raised more peacocks than all of us combined.
But how can sunlight effect the color and not lighting.
what are your thoughts on food?
