So far I have a wish list of:

Melanochromis johanni
Pseudotropheus saulosi
metriaclima estherae

I love the male rusties but not sold on the females.

I would be hesitant to put m. auratus or crabo (bumble bee cichlid) in a 40 breeder. You just don't have the length. For those two species I would at least have a 4 foot length and longer the better. Those two species are very aggressive along with kenyi's and chipoka's. You are better off with yellow labs, rusties, g. lawsi. The saulosi's could work too, they aren't overly aggressive.

Thanks. I'm going to go back and look through the different species an make a wish list for the upcoming swap. Looking to keep size around 4", definitely under 6", any suggestions as to some of the species I should avoid?

A 40 breeder will work for either of the species you mentioned. You could easily go with 1 or 2 males and 4 or 5 girls. If you get more than one male though I would definitely go with 5 females.

40 Breeder is big enough for most mbuna in groups of 3-6.

I have a 40g breeder with a 5" Nic in it. I have never kept mbuna but recently housed my friends while he settled into his new home. I had his fish in said tank with my Nic for 3 weeks and all fish were happy as could be and after he picked up his fish the Nic sulked for a week. I am looking for some mbuna of my own. My first choice is p. Saulosi due to looks of both males and females. One species that I watched were m. Johanni and I know they're more aggressive than the saulosi and was wondering if how they would do in the 40b. I am also open to suggestions of other dwarfs with attractive females. The tank has pfs with about 60# of stone creating dozens of bidding places.

Thanks
