A HUGE Mouthfull

Dont be concerned about flooding the market - one doesnt really exist after you (if you can) sell the first 25.  So many mbuna are just auction fodder.  Its a nice fish, I kept them, too.  The problem is if you raise every mbuna that spawns you'll run out of space very quickly.  A better method, I found< was to raise smaller mixed groups of fry.  25 of 6 types of fish will sell a lot easier than 150 of one type.  You get the newbies who want community tank of colorful fish - not just one type.

Except for yellow labs - you can sell every one of those buggers.

I got one spawn and then separated them. Didn't need anymore. My first and only spawn had like 40. Sold them all. Wouldn't be surprised if you breeders and my spawn are related.

I'm concerned about flooding the market as well. I have them on the classifieds for $2 without a single inquiry. (Shawn) Do you remember if you were getting big spawns from your's? My youngest females (probably 1st time spawners) are holding 50 eggs. It looks like I could have 1,000 fry by the beginning of September. (I have about 22 breeders)

Your going to flood the market with lawsi! I would take some but I already BAP'd them. They are cool little fish.

The same "larger female" spawned again today...over a flat piece of granite I have in the front of the tank. She laid 8-10 eggs per cycle, and immediately picked them up. The male fertilized the eggs while they were held. It was quite a thrill to watch them spawn, as I'm still new to cichlids. It looks like she has well over 100 eggs again! Anybody interested in fry for BAP, is more then welcome to some. I can bring them to a meeting.

No tumbler. I have them in a container with an airstone and methylene blue...like Pete showed us in his Tropheus talk. I float the container in a heated tank, as I can't heat my fishroom. I have to use individual heaters on each tank.

So, do you have them in a tumbler?

I'll definetely BAP 5. Should have plenty for trade/giveaway for BAP members. I'll have some Tropheus Kiriza ready for BAP as well.

That's huge for any Mbuna! Definitely not the norm. Don't forget to save 5 for the BAP program.
