Questions about giving away/auctioning fish?

10 years 5 months ago #24543 by Kegger22
if I were you I would put the fish you have for sale in the clasifieds with the price you would like to get for them there and see if you get any bites, depending on how aggressive your pricing is will most likely depend on how many people will be interested

Members do sell their fish at the swaps. Or donate them to the auction where the profits go back into the club. Prices for the fish are a lot lower, and quality of the fish is usually a lot better.

At the swap meets do members sell their fish or are there more of breeders / store owners with many fish to sell?  Can anyone auction there?  Also how do prices tend to compare to the prices at local fish stores for the same fish?

Actually my Tilapia is not very aggressive at all.  But I hear it probably will get mean and it will definitely get too big. Thanks.

I can tell you this, if people want the fish, you folks can use PM or the GCCA calssifieds to work out what is best, I have used buckets, Bags, anything, whatever the person giving/selling is easiest.

Oh and looking at your stock, I have a feeling (even as a New World Cichlid guy) that your Tilapia buttikoferi 5" (not sure of the sex) is going to be if not is, one of your worst aggressors.

Buttis can be nasty, I love em, but Dang Nasty!

Some of you might remember my tank that I described in the post called:
"Need Help!! Aggression problems, Need advice from experienced African keepers"

So lets just say that I give away or auction off my biggest most aggressive mbuna in the tank and maybe others at the next meeting or at the swap meet, how does that all work?  Do you just bring them in bags or should you have people in mind ahead of time that may want them?  Also do people want large full grown mbuna and what about fish that I am not sure of what they are and ones that are most likely hybrids?  I am guessing people don't want hybrids, especially females that might breed.  Here is the list of bigger more aggressive fish that I should probably move would people be interested in these:
p.s. I went and actually measured some of my fish out of the water and some of them are bigger then I thought so here are some more accurate lengths

Tropheops sp. "Red cheek" (Likoma) 4"
Tropheops sp. / Psuedo sp. 5" (probably a hybrid, but not really sure, really nice looking fish though, was not able to identify him)
Metriaclima lombardoi 5"
2 x Metriaclima zebra 5"
Melanochromis auratus 5"
Labeotropheus trewavasae (Zimbawe) 6"
Labeotropheus fuelleborni 5.5"
Copadichromis borleyi "female" 5.5"
Tilapia buttikoferi 5" (not sure of the sex)
