Here is the senerio I see happening:
Male#2 1st takes out male #7 and then 5 and then beats the tar out of Male#1
Male#6 takes out male #3 and then Male#4
Male #1 then becomes a ping pong ball until wiped out between# 2 and #6
That should leave you with 21 females( that's if they don't get stressed out and caught in the crossfire) and 2 males
What I explain to people that come to me wanting a "show" tank is this:
You and your buddies are having a great time in the bar having a few drinks and a georgous woman walks in.....what happens?
Yup, you guessed it, a bar room brawl.... my suggestion is just go all male and you will have a much better rate of survival

Ok if you want it for beauty my recommendation is to start with six to eight young fish of each species and keep two males from each and sell or get rid of the others.
If a fish has other fish of its own species to be dominant over when young they tend to have the best colors.
When I had my show tank two males of each always worked out the best.
Yellow labs really add color and are not too aggressive but cant be bullied.
Taiwan reef are beautiful fish, lemon jakes, ngara, undo reefs, benga peacocks, zrocks are all great fish

One of the few mbuna species that I have kept where multiple males would always be fully colored up and never see any aggression. They wouldn't be an issue with the haps/aulonocara aggression wise.

Second what is your goal? Color, variety, community, etc are you starting with young fish and growing them up.
Is your goal to breed any of the fish -
How deep are your pockets? Not trying to be rude but obtaining some fish that I could recommend could be costly.
If you start with young fish and grow up eight fish of each species you will end up with much prettier fish
Zrocks and Red Empress tend to be a little on the tougher side (the Aulonocara Yellow Jakes are really tough but beautiful).
I would recommend one of the Copidochromis with black bottoms and blue tops (there are about five species / location variants like that). Copidochromis mloto red line Nsisi, Copidochromis trewavassae Lupingu,Copidochromis trewavassae Likoma, Copidochromis trewavassae Misisi, etc. They tend to be tougher and also the fry are worth something.
Note most of the time Red Empress which are beautiful fish you cant give the fry away.
Placidochromis johnstoni solo have stripes and are pretty -

2. 1M, 3F Protomelas taeniolatus (Red) Super Red Empress
What would be some good substitutes outside of the yellow labs that would mix well with the above - these 2 are my true favorites overall.
Please let me know.
Thanks, Joe

Also some of the haps are similar in color
I would ad some yellow labs for color and they mix well with other fish. Just get a good strain where the males get the nice black on their pectoral fins.

Currently I'm setting up my 220 gallon aquarium, and hopefully will start cycling this week. I'm looking for help with my list of Cichlids below, to ensure this particular community.will work long term together.
With a 1 to 3 ratio - Any cautions from the list below - aggression, cross-breeding, not enough females, too many fish etc..
First off, the tank is 72l x 24d x 29h, lighting 6 - 24" truelumen 12k white/blue mix LED bars, PFS-sand substrate, 3D rock background. Still planning out type of rocks for creating shelter / breeding spaces - flat flagstone and similar smooth flat rock. Wanting to make sure I take advantage of the height also which is the biggest challenge. Maybe tall silk plants.

5. 1M, 3F Placidochromis sp. Jalo
6. 1M, 3F Haplochromis sp. ruby
7. 1M, 3F Copadichromis azereus
Really appreciate your feedback on the mix.
Thanks, Joe
