A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road. The Chicken says, "Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!". Pig replies, "What would we call it?". The Chicken responds, "How about ham-n-eggs?" The Pig thinks for a moment and says, No thanks. I'd...

I would stick a sponge filter in your tank for one day. Afterwards I would move it to a bucket with clean dechlorinated water. Then completely overhall your old tank and use the sponge filter to kick start it.

It depends when would you put fishes in. If you have them already go with first option, if don't you can do the second one (but still first would work too).

I have a 37 gallon tank that has been running for several years with a dwindling group of turq. severum. I handed off the last fish today, and am hoping to find a group of young festivum for the next epoch.
So I have a choice..... stick the biowheels and filter medium in a bucket with the old water for a few hours while I tear down and clean and set up the tank..... or take everything out of service, and start over with a "dead" tank that then has to cycle for a month?
If this were your only tank, what would you do? Thx!
