My First Spawn...now the hard part

5 years 11 months ago #35639 by AquaPorn
Thanks for the reply.

Currently she is in a 36" long 30 gallon w/ a sponge filter. It's not full up, so only about 25gl water volume.

She is part of a 3 female harem, and only 1 male. Those are the only fish currently in this tank.

I would remove the parents before I remove the fry if anything starts to go wrong. As of now she has made the others know to stay away.
I would just like to grow out the fry and get my first BAP.

i'd say the hard part is already done. if they are free swimming, i usually just feed the parents, and they take care of the fry. if there are other fish in the tank, then you may have a problem. why not tell us what size tank, and whats in there. also if there is a filter on the tank, they can suck up the fry.

if you want to save the fry, and put them in another tank, thats another story.

Congrats! Now, just start to feed them with BBS or micro worms. If they are alone in the tank everything should be fine.

I was ecstatic to come home from work today to find one of my A. Borelli females hearding her small group of fry of about 30 from pit to pit that she must have dug. It was everything I had hoped it would be as I watched her tend to brood completely fascinated by this. Then horror when I had thought she ate one which was quickly followed by relief as she spit it back out into the group.

Now the hard part. Keeping these fry alive. I've done my research in preparation, but I would appreciate advice from this group.
Tips?
Husbandry?
How long should I wait before I seperate from the mother?

My head is spinning with excitement! I know this may be trivial to most of you, but it's a big deal to me.
I just don't want to screw it up.

Thanks for any and all advice
