I have a male and two females. The male picked out the female, and I moved the lone female to another tank. I have had males kill their mates, so I am holding on to the unselected female just in case.
So, get two and see which one he picks.

Thats what i though but just wantef another opinion. No red hue...but he is really young. Still onlya little over an inch long and really just started showing his colors recently. But he is beautiful lots of personality. Have two bolivians twice his size that he hangs out with but he runs the pack. I need to get him a girlfreind.

That looks like a male, like you said. Nice looking one too.
Got this off of Wikipedia. Has the fish ever had a red belly? If not, pretty sure its a male based on what I see.
"Male specimens of the ram usually have the first few rays of the dorsal fin extended, but breeding has made some females also show this. There is also the fact that, when close to spawning, female rams have a pink or red blush on the abdomen. Females also have a blue sheen over the spot just below the dorsal fin, and males do not show this"
