See that female? yeah that one up there - I killed her.

Male grammodes looking for mate.......

You have had the worst luck in 2009.  Most times, a top left open is nothing.  You need some good things to start happening.

So with my limitations as a camerman well understood by all, I gave it a shot (!) at trying to catch some pictures of the grammodes in open water.  The male patrols occasionally, but the pair usually keeps hidden within the pvc and caves.  The female is almost impossible to catch, and she is in constant breeding dress, so its hard to keep tabs on her unless the light is on.  When I turn on the light, all heck breaks loose and the male will not sit still and allow for some glamour shots.  Below is as good as I could get:

Fuzzy, but you can see the yellow in this fish - that was really unexpected-

Another male profile-

A little fuzzy, but the yellow really displays.  The dorsal is blue and red tipped.  Its common name is the "Mexican Flag Cichlid".  ?? The mexican flag is red, white, and green - I don't see the green in this fish, but maybe you get there by mixing red and yellow? :)

I had a ton of headlong shots since he spent most of the photosession growling at me-

Here is the only pic I got of the female, her nose clipped off and very fuzzy.  You can still pick up the dark breeding dress-

I kind of liked this look, just wished it was a little brighter-

Again, out of focus, but you can really appreciate the coloring-

Sure thing, you can count on that.  I just got done doing a 75% water change, and added a ton of hiding spots for them.  I usually like a clear bottom tank so its easier to maintain, but I guess if this will help prevent fatalities, its got to be there..  Does make the tank more interesting to look at as well.  Soon as I get everything settled in the tank, I will update w/ pics (hopefully today).
