Hello,

My name is Brent Massmann I had the privlage to meet up with some of the GCCA members while I was passing through. I followed along on the tour of Milwakee pet shops. It was very interesting to see the shops. A few as I were told are under new ownership as of latley, but for the most part it seemed as if the new owners were doing a fine job. WOW Hoffers what a cool place ;D. I just had to pick up a few fish from there.

I've been keeping fish seriously for about two years now. I keep and maintain 1200gal of african rift lake species. I really like some of the smaller type ie. Neolamps, Julies, Lamprologines. I have a fair ammout of shell dwellers. What got me hooked on cichlids was the mbunas. The color varients I saw at lfs were amazing. From there I moved on to the smaller cichlids, and now I have been developing a taste for open water tanginikins.

Thanks all GCCA members for the warm welcome.

My name is Chad Lopez, I am from the Quad Cities (Bettendorf, IA), a group of cities along the Mississippi river which borders Iowa and Illinois for those that don't know. I got into cichlid keeping and breeding around, 8 years has it been now? I was able to find some neat rarer Malawians locally from a friend here named Scott Carlson. I took my first trip to a GCCA swap or auction with him years ago, I was like a kid in a candy shop. So many bags of fish, most of which I had never heard of before. Eventually I aquired more tanks and different rarer species to keep and breed. The GCCA opened me up to some nice rare fish, but unfortunately it is a long drive over to Chicago or I would be there more often. Anyway, I have amassed quite a collection of nice Malawians and Catfish. I tend to hold on to them for years and may move a group on here or there to try something new. I have had some live to be 4 or 5 years old in my tanks, my Lace cats are probably the oldest fish now that I have kept longterm. Probably going on 5 or 6 years now, but I haven't really kept track.

I joined the National Guard here in Iowa back in '06 so I had a bit of a break from the breeding thing, and really haven't got back into it full force since. I do keep a few batches of the rarer cichlids I want to get more of though, when I can. The last swap I scored some pretty nice fish, I got a new group of F1 Aulonocara Maylandi fry, and a good sized group of Fossochromis Rostratus fry as well. I look forward to growing them up. I had some Maylandi fry before but moved them on to another person that wanted to try them, they are a neat peacock and look forward to seeing that dark body and orange blaze.

I'm terry.  I kinda did my " Hi I'm me thing " in non cichlid section with pics.

I live pretty far south compared to most here.  But if it has gills I like it.

my names neal im 26 from milton wi (just outside janesville) i started going to the swaps last year after finding out about the GCCA on the wisconsin cichlid forum. i think i would preaolly join if i was alil closer to the chicago land but its alil pricey to drive down there with gas and the **** tolls it dont leave much money for fish:P actully i met nuth this time last year after bringing a guy some sajicas that he was also meeting and there chris fell in love with my sajica's no one else wanted to to buy and begs me to breed them again, some day i will i think he should buy me a tank and stuff to run it so i can:P

i got into this hobby when i was in 3rd grade i started with a fair gold fish and then gota fancy one in a bowl and talked my mom and dad into letting me get a 10 gal. the gold fish passed and then i moved onto mollies platies and swoards. that lasted for a few year and my dad made me take it down cuz i wasnt being resposible enough. well when i was like 15 a buddy of mine and i went fishing and cought some lil blue gills and i thought they would be cool to keep so i had them for 2 or 3 years put the tank away for a few years. when i got into college i thought it would be cool to get some piranhas which i soon found where borring as **** andgave them away. while reading about P's on the net i came across new world cichlids. only working one day a week at the job i was going to school for i picked up at part time job at a LFS. in the mean time my buddy gave me a 55 gal and i stocked it with a green and gold sevrum, an african blk knife (which i still have) some cory cats and a rope fish (wihich i still have).
a few years later my g/f bought me a 75 gal an i dug up that old 10 gal and it magicly turned into a 30L after my dad told me no more tanks.

so now im in a house of my own with a 125, 75 and a 30L. i mainly keep sa/ca cichilds i some day would like to get some shellies. i also enjoy cat fish, plecos (which i have no luck with) and bichirs.i also have a one year and 4 month old rotwiler which more resembles a black and rust mini horse and my g/f has an 11 y/o rot whos alil smaller

also in my spare time i enjoy motorcycles and am part of a motorcycle stunt team called vertical mischief and we do shows all over the US canada and asia. in may i am traveling to china to the World GP race where my best friend has preformed for the past 2 years.

im gonna stop babbling now.....nice to see some framilliar faces on here

I'm Kevin, I'm 17 years old and I go to Brother Rice High school. I'm from Orland Park, Illinois. I have been in the hobby for 10 years now. I'm not a member of gcca but I should become one. Thanks to my dad, who has been in the hobby for 20+ years got me into it and It's great. We started out with a 63 gallon oceanic tank and had peacocks. Last year we bought a 120 gallon aga megaflow tank and its in our living room. We call it a "show tank". It has lots of colorful mbuna and the water is crystal clear. I mostly do all the work with my tanks and my dad buys the fish sometimes, for the most part I do all the work. I keep an eye on my  tanks as much as possible making sure all the fish are healthy. Currently we have a 120, 63, 37 and a 20. If we had a big basement, we would have a few more tanks.

I guess I should introduce myslef.  My name is Brian.  I've been keeping fish for years and years.  I am now keeping just Tanganyika cichlids, Mpimbwe Fronts and N. Pulcher Daffodils.  I love fish, my kids love watching them have fry and caring for them.  I live on the border of Aurora and Oswego.  If you need any Pulcher Daffodil fry, I'll have tons.  Just drop me a line.
