Well i guess i never introduced my self when i signed up.

I am Royce. I have had tanks for 15-20 yrs. Right now i am down to just a 55 and a 220.

I have always been a new world guy. Mostly SA was a huge Uaru nut for years. Still one of my favorite fish. I am slowly switching over to CA the 55 now has a pair of Sajica that i can't wait to get to breedig size and 2 Thorichthys pasiones . the 220 has 5 X Acarichthys heckelii. some fish that were sold to me as heros notatus (they turned out to be hybride (not a happy guy)) and a few other S.A.

This spring/summer i am going to switch the 220 over to CA i am thinking of either V argentea or V regani with some smaller CA as a supporting staff in the tank.

Hi. My name is Doug. A life long resident of NW Chicago. I'm 40, married and have two kids in High School.
As most, I started with a 10 gallon tank with gold fish when I was around 7. A couple of years later I purchased my first cichlid, a convict and placed it in with the gold fish. I went to camp a week later then after two weeks I returned to an empty tank. My Mother "Flushed" my convict because he ate every other fish. After that I guess you can say I've had a "Mental love affair" with convicts, but was never able to get another one as long as I lived at home.
The hobby really started to grow when one of my friend's parents bought a local pet shop. My hanging around turned into volunteering which turned into a job which turned my home into a zoo. I had tropical tanks, hamsters, scorpions, turtles, birds, salamanders with a dog and two cats. All before High School.
Right around High School I narrowed my hobby to just tropical fish and had 3 - 20 gallon tanks with mostly common tropical fish and one with just Angels (didn't know then that I was actually keeping cichlids !!!).
We'll got married, had kids and then I had to leave the hobby because the kids always seemed to be bumping and, well lets just say I didn't believe it was a safe environment for either the children or the fish and I gave up the hobby for about ten years and have been back now for about 4.
My three tanks include a 125 gallon (US) that holds my 14" Red Oscar, my 9" Jack Dempsey, 2 - 4" Silver dollars, 4" Fire Mouth, 16" common pleco and 5" Orange Parrot. A 45 Gallon (US) holds 2 golden severums and 8 juvenile Cutteri's. A 45 gallon (US) with an assortment of just convicts.

I believe in FILTRATION, well over filtration. I try to have a minimum of twice the rated amount for the water I'm filtering. In my 125 I have 2 Fluval 405's, a AquaClear 110 and a sponge filter powered by an air hose, and in my 45's I have a Fluval 405, an AquaClear 110, and sponge filters powered by powerheads, in each.

I feed my bottomless pits an assortment of live and frozen but my staple is an mixture of Hikari Cichlid Gold, Hikari Bio Cichlid Gold, HBH Cichlid pellets and HBG Oscar grow.

I'm looking forward to possibly helping on some issues if I can, but mostly looking forward to learning new ways to help me be the best enthusiast I possibly can be.

Thanks for reading my rambling. ;D

Taxguy, they've really made a lot of improvements on Byron Hills. I live across the street from the course.

Bushynose - welcome to the forum.  I'm originally from Moline. Your town has the best public golf course in the state, imho.
