second the small hole in the return line.  Also if you have more then 1 return line they each need a hole.  Then you also need to run a test to make sure the sump wont over flow.

There are check valves.  Most folks buy cheap ones that ultimately fail. 

I always drilled a small hole in the return right at the water line, facing down.  This breaks the siphon if one develops.
