Kurts Aquariums???

I'd also like to add that someone here said he is not re-stocking until spring sometime.  So where is the harm in trying to get something going before then.

Also,  I am willing to bet that GLA will give a discount on a quantity buy,  thus bringing the price down further.

Lastly,  I did email Kurt twice and he didn't respond.  I believe one of his ads siad he is remodeling his house or something to that effect and he has been busy.  If he's busy,  that's cool.  No one is looking to undercut the man,  or avoid him.  But if he is busy and not re-stocking until spring what are the alternatives?  This is all just hearsay right now anyway,  as no one has committed to purchases nor have I placed any orders.  And I might just get lucky.  I have a lot of freinds from classic pontiac and ford and dodge diesel forums that live in MI,  OH and even all the way out to PA,  so there is always the chance of me getting the stuff brought to me for a song if one of my buddies is bringing a car or other parts this way.

I'm not looking to "avoid" Kurt.  I don't think anyone else is either.  And my buddies 2wd manual dodge diesel will get 22-24 mpg all day long.  With a small trailer it will still get 20.

My Ford duallie 4x4 with 4.30 gears gets 19 empty and 15 towing my 65 Pontiac.  If you are only getting 8 you might wanna have your vehicle checked  :o!

If you aren't interested then you aren't interested.

For those that are,  I am listening.

i still dont think it would be wirth it for you uys to order and make a trip up there. first diesel fuel is more than regular unleaded, plus you are pulling a trailer behind the truck lowering your MPG to a very low rate. when i move back from college a 3 1/2 hour drive were only getting 8 MPG pulling a trailer.

GLA is in Warren MI. which is almost 320 miles from Schaumburg, 640 miles round trip. its also 5 hours each way, 10hrs of driving, not counting loading time at the store. also GLA is also a fish store so count 1 hour for browsing and loading. add another hour for meal stops and rest stops your looking at almost 12 hours on the road not counting for traffic.

if you get 13MPG pulling a trailer youll need at least 50 gallons of gas, more becasue i am sure you will run into traffic somewhere. the US average deisel fuel price is $3.30, 50 gallons of fuel at the average price is at least $165. not counting food spent on the 12 hours of driving.

So the question you have to ask, is it really worth having 2 people drive to warren michigan to get tanks. is the savings really of doing it yourself really worth tha hassle of avaoiding paying Kurt a small middleman fee.  The last tank i bought from him, was $57. the price for the same all-glass tank was $85. sure it is a saving of $28 on one tank, but i would never drive there myself. also it tanks arent wrapped at ill in cardboard like all-glass tnaks are, so not only are you driving there you run the risk of breaking them in transport, then you are SOL. with paying kurt the small markup you are sure to have a flawless tank.

I'll call kurt. i would also reccomend ordering from kurt because no matter the savings, the 12 hour drive isnt worth the hassle.

If there really is enough interest to make the trip worthwhile,  I will do it, and just look to get some of my fuel expense covered.  But it really has to be worth the effort.  Driving all that way for 4 or 5 tanks aint enough.  But say 7 - 10 tanks and some stands,  and we are in business.  Fill up the bed,  and a small tow behind trailer.

He got a 65 / 45 combo on E-rape right now that's around 260.  I was looking for an 85 / 65 set-up.
