Don't use canisters anymore.

But when I did I had some sort of poret like foam, and polyfil.

I recently gutted my canister filters and cut pieces of Poret foam in 1 to 2 inch chucks and used that in my canisters.
So far it works great

If you use a canister filter, what media do you use? I'm getting back into the hobby and I am re-loading some canister filters and don't really know what to make of what is out there. Planning on keeping old world cichlids - if that matters.
