Micron filter??? Water Polishing???

12 years 8 months ago #3205 by dragonkeeper
On a 300 gal tank I assume that you are running a wet/dry sump of some sort? If so you can purchase micron filter socks online at places like www.jehmco.com you will probably have to clean them out every other day for a week or so, but once the initial cleaning is over you should be able to only clean them when you do water changes.

what size is the micron filter in your filter, they range from 1 micron - 200 micron? Also when you say that you use it for water polishing, how long do you run the filter for and for what size tank? In your best opinion how long would you run it in a 300 gallon and which size filter would you use?

i have a HOT magnum canister that i use solely for water polishing. i use the micron cartridge on it and with in hours the sater is sparkling.

You can not use a micron cartridge 24/7 because it will become clogged and the flow will be reduced and possibly burn out the motor on the filter.

I have heard that there are some larger tanks that have been using micron filters to keep the water crystal clear. I have a 300 gallon tank and was wondering if this would help and if so where and what type of filter should I use? Also there are different sizes of these micron filters ranging from 1-200 microns... Which one of these sizes would you recommend? I'm kind of confused on this whole subject so any help would be greatly appreciated.
