Looking for flake food that doesn't turn to dust

I've used some of their flakes in the past. Larger flakes then most other places.

Ah, beef heart the old fashioned way. Sure, I'll take it, and the tongue if you can spare it.

Mike G....? I remember a guy with that name....he used to keep fish....

How many ways I could really have some fun with this one!

You've got significantly larger fish than I do. I don't imagine you have much use for flake.

I'd never heard that about thiaminase, had to look it up. I feed frozen krill to anything big enough to take it. Looks like as long as they get plenty of variety it shouldn't be a problem.

I've been using Hikari micro wafers for my fry once they're big enough to take it.

I'm going to be messing around with homemade foods sometime soon. I think I'll mix in my extra powdered flake. If anything turns out I'll post it up.

Flake will degrade due to weight and handling, no matter how packaged. Not sure how you can avoid it. I simply accumulate the powder for newly hatched fry. Flake is flake, I'm not sure one is more dramatic than another.

But I've found flake only relevant for growing out fish up to about an inch or so. I've been using mostly a micro-pellet - seems to really enhance the growth of fish as they compete for pellets with the gravel and each other. Micro-pellet for larger fish seems to keep them healthier as well, vs. the larger segments.

I'm back into pikes and also just got my first Cichla so I've been experimenting with frozen alternatives. Occasional krill and shrimp (thiaminase = HITH), I'm working with bloodworms, tubifex, and plankton. I'm hoping to get some freeze-dried blackworms at the swap. I'm also going to try homemade with some pork/vegetable concoction I have in my head as well.

I'm looking for a flake food that starts out as large flakes and stays that way.

I've tried a half dozen different brands. By the time I get to the last 1/4 of a can the flakes have crumbled so small they're useless for anything but small fry.

I handle the stuff very gently, don't shake the can.

I just don't need that much powdered fry food.

Any way to turn this powder back into flakes?

Any suggestions for a good brand of flake food?
