vortex diatom

Ran it yesterday on the new 180 and kept mixing up the gravel the tank is real clean. Also fighting hole in the disease in my 125.

I've always been an angelfish breeder/raiser...I do ,also, raise some cories and BN's. Right now, I'm working on my Koi lines and some of the Philippine Blue varieties. There are some Marbles,Silvers,Golds,Blue Blushers,etc going at this time too....might need more tanks....LOL

what you raise? i have Moba's

I've got about 1500+ gal running now and wouldn't be without one..I do have a couple of 'Hot' Mag's that I run after water changes to help clear up debris, tho. The Diatom's I use for really getting them polished out, on occasion.

I don't think people know how good they are. Its something you use only now and then. I'll have to try the cup thing. I just set up 180 gal tank.

They are pretty nice,aren't they..?? I have two,found one at a garage sale and picked it up for $10...LOL...Got a couple of new bags at 'Big Al's' and cleaned it up,oiled it and it runs like a charm. I've found that clipping a large ' 32oz gas station pop cup' to the inside of the tank,filled with water,then pop both tubes in,add powder and run til coated...slide cup off and it's a go..
I had that valve thingy that worked but they break/leak easily..I can fold the tubes,'out' first then 'in', and move tank to tank...releasing the 'in' first then the 'out'...you can use clamps for that too,if you want..this way you leave it running and it never loses the coating

Received my vortex and its just as go as i remembered.

I've used them for years. Just when you think your tanks are pristine, run the Diatom and they pop super clear. They polish the water down to a micron and remove any smaller water particles suspended in the column. They will even filter out ick....nice to have around..IMHO..

Never used one, but never saw the need for it either. All my tanks are crystal clear (except for the glass  :-X )

My 125 show and 92 corner show are all filtered with sumps. My breeding tanks are all filtered with sponges on a central air system. I do 40% water changes and the filters take care of the rest.

Had one years ago and used it ever month or two for added cleaning. Something you don't run all the time. Do you have some advise on it? Thanks
