I have a similar setup with 3 T-8 bulbs in a homemade canopy over my planted tank.
I can't recommend any specific brand because I haven't tried many of them.
I use cheap hardware store bulbs. 2 pack of Phillips or similar brand 'Daylight' or "cool white" tubes rated at 6500K cost about $5.
Live plants seem to do very well with this spectrum.
A mix of different spectrum bulbs usually looks pretty good too. Get one bulb to bring out the blues-10,000K or higher, and one with a lower temp -4500K-6500K to make the red and orange fish really shine. 10,000K or higher bulbs will give you that crisp blue/white saltwater look.
Avoid bulbs labeled warm or soft (2700K) unless you are growing flowering plants that specifically need it. 2700K is about the color of a standard incandescant and just doesn't look right on a fish tank in my opinion.
I know that some of you out there uses this kind of set up.
I have build nice canopy for my aquarium and it houses two 48 inch T5 HO light bulbs.
I would like to know what are my best options for brand and light spectrum.
