Stealth Pro Heaters

I swapped mine out for the Aqueon Pro heater today with no problem.  There was a $3 credit and they gave me cash.

Well, they tried to give me a gift card. The letter I recieved from Petsmart in the mail stated "exchange or full refund". I had to explain to the manager that none of the heaters they sell will fit in my sump. The ones that do are not powerful enough. And the letter clearly stated "refund". Believe me, I had it out with the lady at Marineland. She said that Petsmart was just creating a panic and I should not worry. Ok. I got a sump for this reason. I don't like clutter in the tank. I keep everything in the sump. I doubt I will ever by a Marineland product again.

I always thought putting a heater in a sump sounded like a good idea.  I might have told the person on the phone I keep it in the sump so if one of their poorly manufactured heaters explodes it doesn't take out the big tank.

You can bring any model of the Stealth Pro to your local Petsmart for an exchange or a full refund and not have to wait on Marineland to send one. I just brought back my 250 watt and got a 43 dollar cash refund. If you call Marineland you will not get anywhere. The lady at Marineland said I should worry more about having the heater in my sump than I should about the stop sell. According to her, heaters should not be placed in a sump. Give me a break.

I switched to the Marineland Visitherm with no problems. I got mine from Jim Lehner and Jeff Michaels.

fyi-Marineland has sent out letters to retailers to have them pull Stealth Pro Heaters from 100W-300W.  You can get exchange or refunds.  Not a recall though.  Dr. Fosters is shipping me a Visitherm to replace my stealth.  No stealths on marineland's website anymore.  Ken's Fish has message on their website.  Going to Petsmart to return the 200W today.

Marineland is awesome about getting you new heaters but its a hassle if you don't have a back up (I didn't at the time)... I ditched the stealth pro for an eheim jager and a hydor inline... Now the new one sits in a box waiting for a new tank or one of my current heaters to explode.

Ebos are the best of the worst. 

This is like arguing which is worse - a broken left leg or right leg.  Both suck and are inconvenient. 

If you have a big tank - get a temp. controller and a titanium or stainless tube heater.  They basically never fail, are good for 20 years, and are simple to use and install.  Just expensive. 

The one that stopped heating is 01G31 (lot# in red print) and the one that I blistered by running it horizontally out of water is 01/31 (in green print).

My nicest heater is a pair of titanium elements being driven by a Ranco ETC in a 125g.  I also run a lot of Visitherm stuff, mostly the old style- I had a few of the new ones that shed the silver plating from the outside of the tube as annoying little glittery flakes.  That was very soon after they were released, though- maybe they've fixed the problem.  The rest of my tanks have 50w and 100w pre-set Tetras.  I've noticed that the Tetras don't always run at 78 degrees- they're often more like 76.5, and I've got one that's only 75.
