LED's are definitely better that CFs or anything else out there. Initial costs is a little rough but they will pay for themselves over their lifetime.

There is a 7-11 in my building where I work. They just switched to LED lights - absolutely the brightest store I have been in.
I have several power compact fluorescent units. I have them for tanks where either I maintained plants or I wanted algae for the trophs, plecos or petros.
They can turn a glass wall in the tank green in 3 days.
After that, it is all about aesthetics. Do you like th look of the ligth unit.

Standard shop light Vs a standard strip from a tank manufacturer, no difference to me at all. But the new LED's are far and away superior. Cleaner light in my opinion, and the savings in electrical cost is massive.

I've always been a fan of using a nice 48" double strip shop light with a pair of upgraded 50/50 bulbs. I see these expensive lighting units and I wonder if they could really be worth the price. Anyone make an argument for one of these fancy units?
