Kevin~

If you need some Jaegers to help you out, I am 2 minutes away and have a bunch of 150's and a couple of 300's. Just give me a call, I use all Jaegers, except for 1, that is a stealth, but had it in the 75 when I had my vicious cuban pair, needed the security. Just give me a yell, I need some BN's anyways as we discussed thursday. You should still have my number, if not PM me and Ill call ya. I use Jaegers for everything, unless they are Tank Busters...Don't trust or like the stealth for the reasons listed above.

I use almost all stealths and want to eventually go to all Stealth heaters. I have never been shocked by one. All my stealths are 75 and 100 Watt.

And when there are large bubbles on the stealth it is on.

It probably wasn't enough to kill you or the fish.  Electricity travels through salt water better as their are more minerals.  The fish should be fine.

Thanks for the info!

It looks like the concensus is that Stealth Heaters are a POS.

I did have my knee on the ground when I got Zapped.

I have to agree with the Tax man here. Who makes a heater with no power indicator? The only good thing I have found about stealth heaters is that they are practically indestructible as far as being able to crack or break like a glass heater. Otherwise they are a P-O-S! The thermostat is a cheap POS and they are not very accurate.

Thankfully in this hobby most of the equipment that we use is relatively low power. About the only thing you have to worry about is lights. Yea heaters and filters will give you a kick in the pants if they have a voltage leak, but they aren't likely to cause serious damage. As AJ said the tank is not grounded so the electricity is not flowing through the tank (Remember Glass and Plastic are insulators). You come along and stick your hand in the tank with the other on the floor, or maybe your kneeling on the floor and you will complete the circuit.

You get shocked and your fish will get a little buzz. If there is enough juice you will get a big shock and your fish may not make it, or there could be some long lasting effects. The Tax man has the right idea of isolating your power so that it can easily be shut off. Also make sure all your power cords have drip loops to prevent water going strait to the socket.

There is more to read about in the article I wrote here: www.gcca.net/gccaforum/index.php/topic,583.0.html

Happened to me with a stealth and will not happen again.  Three things I did:

(1) Took all 20-plus stealth heaters, sold, gave them away, and threw remaining in the trash.  Total garbage product.

(2) Bought Jagers from Jehmco

(3) Set up power bars on the walls behind my tanks solely for heaters.  Before I stick my hand in a tank, I switch off the power bar.

Hate the stealth.

The other thing I hate is the lack of a power light. Not sure why I originally bought them - I think becuase of their durability with big fish, but that's overrated in my opinion. I have kept some big fish over the years and only one glass heater has ever been busted. And you can always counter that with sliding pvc over the heater.

Hate the stealth.

what amazes me is that I have had tanks since I was 5 or so - I have only beed shocked once.  Felt like a bee sting.

Thats why i buy new heaters every year or two.  I pay $13 in bulk and sell the old for $10 or so.

I am positive it was a shock.  Like a dummy :) I put my hand in once again to be sure.

Someone told me Marineland had a lifetime guarantee on their heaters. Does anyone know if this is true?
