I highly doubt it would raise your ph but if you don't rinse it and by somehow it does raise it to 8 from 7 that quick you may put your fish into shock, that is if they put something into the sand to raise the ph of course, the only way that I know how to raise the ph in the tank is by doing it very slowly in small incriments till you get it where you want it to be, may wanna try finding that rift lake buffer recipe out there and raise it that way

Probably won't raise your ph. I have one tank with nothing but crushed coral and it didn't raise my ph. It will however help buffer your ph (make it more stable). As for chlorine I highly doubt that this will have any effect on it. I would still use a conditioner.
Even though it says it does not need rinsing I would highly recommend that you do. Dump it into a 5 gallon bucket and put a hose in it. Move the substrate around to release all the fine dust and crap until the water runs clear.
As far as it being a "live rock" I find that hard to believe as freshwater bacteria doesn't have much of a shelf live without food and refrigeration. If your tank is up and running I would just rinse out the stuff and slowly shovel, scoop, or pour it in. This will help reduce the after effect cloudiness. You will probably get some cloudiness but no where near as bad had you just opened the bag and dumped it in.

the chicago bred cichlids will live in almost anything so the PH thing isnt really that big of a deal. i still think you should look for it locally before ordering online and paying extra shipping.
