GCCA Meeting-March

Join us for an in-person meeting!

Peter George speaks on "Victorian Cichlids"

About the talk

From Peter: My talk will cover an 11 year period when NECA worked closely with Oliver Lucanus, Kim Pedersen, Joel Fogby and several other European collectors and breeders, in an unusually successful series of collections and imports of cichlids from all over Africa, most of which were either totally unknown or never before available to the hobby. I’ll review many of the beautiful and strange species we brought in and hopefully entertain you with the amazing stories that are associated with these collections and imports. And, of course, I’ll lay out the aquarium maintenance of a few of the very special cichlids so you can keep and breed them yourselves.

About the speaker

I’m a Baby Boomer, and for most of my life I’ve kept fish. From a NYC apartment, to a suburban home in Westchester County, to a dorm room at the University of Kansas, to Atlanta and then to Massachusetts, I’ve kept fish. I’ve lived in a 200 year old Greek Revival home in the rural town of Petersham, MA since 1983 and rather large basement has been used as a fishroom for most of that time. I run an Expert Referral Service in my home, so I’m able to maintain the 40 odd tanks I’ve got now, almost all of which contain African cichlids. I keep fish from the unusual lakes and rivers of Africa, and try to breed as many as possible.

I’ve served on the ACA Board of Directors, been President of the New England Cichlid Association, helped organize 2 ACA/NECA Conventions and been in charge of speakers for over a decade. Lot’s of fun!
