About the Speaker
Dr. Sam Borstein is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. While broadly interested in the ecology and evolution of fishes, his current work predominantly focuses on understanding how the changing hydrology of the Amazonian region, arrival order of new fish families into the Amazon, and interactions amongst fish species have shaped the evolution of the amazing diversity of Neotropical fishes.
About the Talk
Sam will discuss a recent expedition to the Tapanohony River, a large tributary of the Maroni/Marowijne River in Suriname. He will also discuss the development of a fair-trade aquarium export industry in the region for the Amerindian communities of the region.
