Hello we have a 2 tank setup with an iron stand the problem were having is that we can't clean the bottom tank. Cant vacuum and hard to get a hand in there. Any way we can remove the water but cant vacuum the bottom any suggestions? thanks Dave email@example.com
Agree by using a power head to suction the water out of the lower tank. If you are part of the bucket brigade water change you can reverse the tubing to fill the tank. Aqua pro on you tube has a diy gravel vac you can make using the power head. Lower tanks can be an issue because of clearance from the upper level tank and lack of gravity flow but we all do this. Good luck and let us know what you do.
What I do for my lower tank is I syphon right out the door. I drop the hose a bit off the side of the railing and down a gutter pipe. Only other thing I can think of is use an external water pump. Kinda pricey but it would do the trick. Attach 1/2 inch or 3/4 hose to the inlet and outlet. Make sure the "head pressure" rating of the pump can handle the flow so the bigger the pump the better if its far to the toilet. Use a shut off valve to control the flow. Don't want to suck any substrate or fish in the prop. Make a u joint out of 1/2 inch or 3/4" pipe to hang on the toilet rim.
In the past I used to syphon right to the sump in the basement. Hope that helps. Tom
