A good male BN will protect the spawn.

My breeding traps have lids on them so they float around the tank and water flows through them.

ok but if there are just spawning under some rocks they will ge them and what would a breeder trap look like?????

In a properly constructed breeder trap your fish will not be able to get to the eggs/fry.
