When & How to remove Multi Fry?

11 years 9 months ago #9336 by Nuchal Man
Egg crate works well. The other option is PVC elbows, and see how many you can get to go in their, and pull out. You can also use regular straight pvc and put the shell on that, and it will do the same as the egg crate.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

In my 20L I have about 50-60 multie fry with about 10 adults..when should you remove the fry to a grow out tank?...How do you go about doing that?(remove shell, upside down on eggcrate in 5gal bucket of tank water?)..and finally do you use a bare tank to grow out fry? Whew thats alot of ???Any help...Thanx Wilpir ???

That should work fine.  I used that method for my similis without any problems.  Most of the fry came out after 30 minutes or so.  I waited about an hour just to make sure all the fry were out of their shells before I took the shells out of the water.  I used PVC corners as their "new" shells at the bottom so they would have something to hide in.  My grow out tank as a thin layer of sand, just barely covering it, with PVC corners for them to hide in.  It's just easier, with the PVC corners, if you want to sell them or remove them into another tank when they get bigger.

Got Green? What's your carbon footprint?
