Thanks everyone for your input! All great info!

I did order 6 WC Kapampa from our supplier here in the US. Not sure if they are "original" but they are labeled WC Kaps and do look the part. I think they took a real beating in transit as I'm having a hard time getting them settled in.

I'm really excited to compare them to the F1 TR Kaps I have. Can I see a difference? Right now it pretty simple as the new fish are beat up and have shredded fins. But when they heal and acclimate? Not sure.

I'm also looking at adding yet another tank so still might be interested in adding fish. Kapampa of course.

Hello Lee McLeod here, and I had 10 wild caught just before they closed the border some 10-15 or more years ago. they were caught by Rene Kruter who was actually here for the ACA a couple of years after he caught them, he hooked up with Eric Glab (GCCA Member Back then) while in town and actually came to my (THEN) house to see my fish ! that was cool.
anyway i have 4 F1 and 1 F2 left from that wild group, what i believe to be 2 male and 3 Female, (not 100 Percent sure)
I love these fish, the thing is due to Circumstances, i'm kinda starting over my tang tank and these guys would eat them up. might be willing to part with them Stlll Debating internally. shoot me a PM and we can talk if interested.

pics of the wild dad were on the cichlid fourum dont know if they are still there

Failing that, an importer is currently listing wild caught Kapampas. But who knows if they are "those" kapampas..

Good luck with this. Aquatic Teknology was a flash in the pan and Chip stopped importing 3 - 5 years ago. Once Mobas and all the other similar variants popped up, kapampas weren't as popular, and weren't imported nearly as frequently. I brought in several hundred moba, tembwe, kitumbas and very few kapampas. Oyer actually got his first moba from me.The original wild caught zaires were almost all kapampas and they were brought into the country way before the last frontosa craze started - maybe mid 90's into the early 2000's. There was bit of a slow down and then in 2003 or so the market started getting flooded with thousands of frontosa of dubious origin. I say dubious because suddenly every front was a moba and they all looked different. My understanding is Chip was mostly supplied by Jannicki (spelling?) not reuters.

A guy to talk with is Rick Boester. He has a website and he was keeping kapampa and kitumba when most of the gcca members were keeping convicts.

Bob lived out by elgin. Raised angels by the thousands. He kept fronts, too, at least back when I saw him last - maybe 5 - 8 years ago.

Good luck.

Long shot here. I'm looking to buy some very specific Kapampa.

I have a small group of beautiful F1's from Big Jim who has (had?) some of the original WC Kaps. Jim's fish are really amazing and that's the type of fish I'm looking for.

Does anyone know where I can track down early Kaps from Thortsen Rueters. He sent his fish to US importers like Chip at Blue Chip and Mike at Aquatic Teknology.

Help me out with a clue, phone number or email address. Who has these early Kaps or knows where I might find them. Mike, Chip, are you out there? Big Jim are you around? Anyone here buy from these guys?

I recently got an email from John Oyer (a Moba breeder in Michigan) he said I should contact Bob Steele. Anyone know how to get in touch with Bob?

Thanks all!
Steven
