Ted Judy is the February speaker. They are still on his fish list and will bring them to the meeting to avoid shipping charges. If you go to his website and contact him, I'm sure he'll be willing to tell you about the temperature issue.

Yeah, no fish store stuff directly to the discus tank. Well no new stuff directly period, really. The new stuff doesn't have to be sick themselves to carry a pathogen. Then again, I wiped out 4 tanks and a total of 50 discus by adding a (really, really cool) pleco from a store back in 1993. The pleco survived just fine.

But if you're OK with taking relatively lower-risk chances, get them from a "professional hobbyist" - someone who brings in fish to his fish room and acclimates them before selling. There might be someone in Chicago right now if you try GCCA classifieds as a Wanted. tedsfishroom.com/ in Wisconsin has them listed. Or try one of the regular professional rated sellers on Aquabid under Characins (might have to buy a 50-lot). I wouldn't order fish for shipping next week based on temps even if they're willing to ship.

Ok well now you are opening a huge issue I have -

Fish from a petstore, just stay away, the chances of getting a diseased fish are just too high.

I can count on one hand the number of times I have purchased fish from a petstore in the past three years and each time the fish come diseased and wipe out the dam tank.

The fish industry as whole needs to address this problem as no wonder fish keeping is on a decline, think of most peoples first experience with fish.

Pretty sure the issue starts with the wholesalers who get their fish from Asia, but I could be making an assumption.

Basically I would say it's not worth the risk - unless you put them in your own quarantine tank for 90 days or so and treat them.

Now getting fish from a specialist wholesaler like OldWorld Exotics is not included in this as his fish are by far the healthiest and nicest I have ever gotten.

A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road. The Chicken says, "Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!". Pig replies, "What would we call it?". The Chicken responds, "How about ham-n-eggs?" The Pig thinks for a moment and says, No thanks. I'd...

Hello, I'm new to GCCA, and I'm a discus guy, and my wife is wanting "something else" in the tank, so I'm thinking Cardinal Tetras in addition to rams and bristlenose. Does anyone know where I can get any Cardinals that are healthy and like higher temps? I keep my tank at 84F Thank you!
