Can Somebody I.D. My Frontosa?

9 years 5 days ago #29606 by joshua.jebe
not a burundi by far;o/    he/she does have nice color god blue tones and no other obvious defects other than location identity!    thru the few fronts that i have seen in person from the pic it could be a bismark variant or further down  the coast line, just with no definate from who you got it from i would side on the feeder fry or move him out to a new home or someone with a community male tank(if it is male).

There you go - a guy selling zambian burundi fronts.  Clearly no idea what he has, but that isnt slowing him down a bit.

Tread carefully when buying fish.

Cool. While I am new to the site I have been in the hobby for years. I am not a very religious person but I do not believe man should try to manipulate what God has created. There are plenty of beautiful fish that exist in nature, no need to hybridize in my book. If they breed I will think of it as free fish food. Thanks Guys.

Keep it in there. If they breed, feed the fry to your centrals, or like Mike said, let her spit and they'll be gone anyway. Ya sound like ya know what you're doing hybrid wise, (being responsible and NOT selling) so just keep it and enjoy the possibility of clean fresh feeders for your centrals.

BTW, I agree, not a Burundi.

Now I almost want to get him out of there. Trust me, I am not a big fan of hybrids by any means.

 Eventually someone will get screwed.

my thoughts exactly, it will be our kids and grandkids, they will never get a chance to see in person what the actual fish will look like, just pictures

I really don't foresee that happening.  Yes some people will be mislead and be given mixed fish but as long as wild populations are maintained and wild caught fish are still being sold, pure blood lines will be possible to purchase.  If anything I would think that as the blood lines mix then pure blood fish will just increase in value.

Not what i am saying.  The fry will change hands and eventually some ***** will sell them as pure blooded whatever fronts.  I have seen fish I have sold as tank strain or certainly remote from wild listed on the gcca the next week as wild caught or f1.  There are a few guys who sell female peacocks as whatever the males they have are as "all peacocks are the same".

This **** happens all the time.  It is very important to know who you buy from and who you sell to.  Unfortunately, you never know who they sell to.  As a word of warning - always be wary of small wild fish, colored up fish that seem small, anything classified as rare or "one of a kind" and any fish that typically has a location that is sold without one.

good luck with your fish.

Don't stake my life on it. Lol. If they were to breed, I would not intend to mislead peolpe into believing it was a pure bloodline. I would not intend to distribute these in any way. I was convinced just by coloration he was not a Burundi. Thanks everyone for confirming this. I just wanted to confirm my beliefs.

It is not a burundi.  I'd stake your life on it.

No reason not to keep them with other fronts as long as you are responsible and destroy (just leave them in the tank, they'll get eaten) the fry.  Please dont let cross location or hybrids out in the market.  Eventually someone will get screwed.
