don't use tetra's or white clouds. That would be a source of food. Clavus are good fry killers too. If you have an overload of fry throw them in the tank. Don't use a fish that is picky about water conditions either.

BTW those are beautiful fish. Are they Inkfin Clavus?

i was thinking dithers, such as White Coluds or bloodfin tetras. a fish that i could pullout of that tank and put somewhere else, and  that i like, is inexepnsive, and stays small.

maybe the male is using the toaster as a tanning salon ;D

joking aside, might wanna use a couple of dithers that move around alot, may give the calvus the thought that hey, if its safe for them to come out it must be for us too

maybe a background would help also

A. Calvus Question was created by rm-slover
i was wondering about my black calvus.  here is a picture of the tank they are in now. its a 20 long with a "taoster" and a bunch of flower pots. (never mind the man in the reflection)

here is the female peeking out from behind the pot which she hides 99% of the time.

here is the male

basically, did you guys who have bred calvus think these fish were boring? where the fish are in those pics are where they spend 99% of the time. the male will go into a slot on the toaster and then come out.  I'm not so worried about then breeding right away although the guy who i bought them from said they had spawned once and he traded the fry for 5 yellow calvus which he had.

did your calvus basically just sit there? did you guys use dithers in the tank to get them to move around?

i like them, my wife says they are boring because they never do anything. is there we could do to get them more active. the pair at aquarium adventure in hoffman estates is pretty active. they should sing and dance for the $120 each they want for them.
