Julies would work. You may have to give them a rock pile though. If you are ever on Cichlid Forum amost all the people that are setting up tanks have shellies and clavus in the same tank. Julies would works as well.

with as hard to find as shellies are apearing to be in chicago i doth think i would be comfortable placing my shellies in that tank.

i do have some smaller calvus i got from peter durkin a few weeks back that i was tinking of getting rid of in the auction. i may be able to get them out of my other tank and put them in there with some shells.

what about julies?

No offense, but I think your missing my point.

Danios or Clouds would be food they wouldn't last a week. Clavus hunt, they love live food.

Also shellies wouldn't exactly be a dither, but they would do what the dither fish would do. Shellies add lots of life to the tank, I'm kind of suggesting them as another tank inhabitaint over a dither. Shellies would also last longer, and could pay themselves off.

shellies are too expensive to use as dithers. i'd rather use white clouds or danios.

Well, depends on how big these Bloodfins are when you put them in the tank. If they are under 2" they are going to be eaten or torn to shreds. Clavus are predators and hunters. How about some shellies. Even though shellies are small. The can hold their own agains clavus, and they have their shells for cover. And if the shellies breed the clavus have a free meal everytime.

the guy i bought them from said they are black calvus. i dont think they are inkfin. both the male and female are solib black, but have the little white dots on them.

i would like to get them to feel more comfortable in the tank instead of just not moving at all. i would like to use bloodfin tetras because after i get rid of my bi-color male the 33Long he is in will become a planted SA tank with my mikrogeophagus altispinosa, black and red guppies, and possibly some apistos if i can get any at the auction. i would also add the bloodfins to that tank as well.

what other cheap dither would you suggest, if you feel a dither is an anwser?
