Chicago area retailers to patronize

Living Sea in Park Rigde is on Cumberland and Touhy.  Awesome place to visit,  but very pricey.  Shark tanks are real coo too.  Aquarioum Adventure is the same way but on a smaller scale.  Unfortunately the last two times I went to King Coral I was VERY unimpressed.  Seems that since they moved from Montrose,  the store went downhill in a big way.  Tanks were really filthy with a lot of floaters,  and in one tank a big 8 or 9" Front was being mercilessy pummeled into a corner by a red devil and some convicts.  I almost bought the poor guy just to save him.  That was until the lady who owns it told me she wanted $75 for a battered and beaten fish.  Haven't been back since.  Too bad too,  because when they were on Montrose I bought a LOT of fish from them.

Agreed about King Coral I have had several similar experiences. I live close by the new location so we go there for something to do. It's pretty sad at times.

There is a new Aquarium Adventure in Bolingbrook, IL too.  I love their tanks.  The are a bit pricey.

The place in algonquin was, I believe, Strandell's.  It closed 2 - 3 years ago.

king coral has a decent selection, fish appear healthy and the prices are fair.  I have not had that experience at the other stores listed.  The place in algonquin was, I believe, Strandell's.  It closed 2 - 3 years ago.

I like AA because it has the cool show tanks. I mean its easy to make a cool show tank when you have a tank the size of a swimming pool. and they are pricey and have a few good employees. Dotty and dave are great. Dave used to run rainbow pets.

I like living sea because I went there on a weekend for the shark feedings. They did have some shell dwellers when I was there but that was before I got hardcore into shellies. If you can call shellies hard core, but as of this upcoming sunday I will have 5 shellie species.

Rainbow pets had a nice selection of haps and peacocks when I was there but the rest of the tanks were dirty and un kept. It looked as if they either didnt care about the other fish or just stopped cleaning halfway through.

I was not impressed with king coral when I visited there. granted that was about 10 months ago things may have improved, I just always forget where it is when I am out that way.

King Coral and Rainbow pets are great places to visit. Aquarium Adventure is also a good place to visit. AA is a bit pricey but worth it to just look around. I believe the place in Algonquin is now closed.
