Whatever you want to do is your decision. Have fun doing it.  just dont pass along fish where you have a question as to its true identity.  For free or for $ you wont be doing yourself or the hobby a favor.

if you are resonably certain they are hybrids, the ethical thing to do is to either keep them or destroy them.  Do not pass them along.  Whether for money or for friendship, eventually they will get out and will lead to confusion more hybrids.  Neither is a good thing

I value your opinion. As they are still FRY though, I think I'll grow them out. As I stated I'm not into this for money like yourself. Attempting to make an assumption or at best an educated guess while fish are half an inch is pretty fallacious.

Update: 4/29

I dropped the female back into the main tank. She spit over 20 total fry, I can't get an exact count just yet.

rm-solver: I thought about what you said, let me grow these guys out a little and I might be interested in trading for some acei fry if you happen to have them at the time.

I agree, I need determine if I have a mutt. I already have one suspect male.

As far as distributing fish, I'm just going to raise them, separately. I'm not into this for money or selling of fish. Maybe when they are grown I will trade them for another fish that peaks my interest at the time.

Now here is the difficult part.

You need to figure out if the babies are the hybrids or do one of parents have a bit of MUTT in them.

You could raise up the fry and see what they become and only distribute them to those you trust enough not to distribute fry from those mutts. Or cull them now before they get to large to use for feeders.  I would take some fry if you choose to distribute them.

Update: 4/28

The bad: I had to disassemble my tank to get the other holding maingano out.

The good: She spit BLUE babies into the breeding trap!

The first batch is definitely a hybrid of some sort, they still have golden fins.

Update 4/24

The bodies of the fry have turned light blue, and you can see all the organs. The fins are still golden though. Argh.

One of the females that was holding spit into the tank. Struck me as kind of odd, just a few days of holding. I looked for a few minutes for fry but couldn't see any fry, so I decided to check the overflow. Sure as... well you know, there was a fat multipunctatus baby. He looked pretty fat so I'm sure he cannibalized some of his buddies too.

Here is a good tip I've found for breeding multis ... have fake plants leading up to the overflow. They will climb up and end up taking a ride to the back and it is easy to pluck them out of there of course.

My first thought was I had a rogue johanni in the group. They are getting darker, and have blue dorsal fins now. Guess I'll just have to keep you guys updated.
