With enough space, you may be okay.  Hybridization is almot guaranteed, however.

Update,  seems I will have a 90 opening up sooner than later.  What do you guys think of a tank of Demasoni,  Polits,  and Labs?

Say 10 - 15 Labs,  18 Demasoni,  and 8 - 10 Polits.......... I think it would be a gorgeous tank, with the colors of the fish.  And I would think that the tank is plenty large enough,  and I will have plenty of rockwork as well.

Last question,  I don't think that I have ever heard about Labs and Demasoni hybridizing,  but what are the odds of the Polits and Demasoni playing post office?

A 40 gallon would fit them.  Bigger the better.

The larger the foot print of the tank that better. I would say that a 75 gallon would work best because remember that they will grow.

pack them in!

They are in a 125 with 40 3" socaloffi, 15 p. phenochilus, 30 albino red OB zebras (my new favorite fish?), and 30 labidochromis Mbamba.

3 females holding.

Once I strip these irls - out they go......

after my last post i was trying to think if there was a 4 ft 40ish gallon tank. a 40 breeder would be good as well. its long, deep and almost as high as a 30 long.

Good thing you are getting 6-8, they are rough, and I really wouldn't recommend anything less than 8 fish. I think the best set up for these guys is a 40 breeder, loaded with rock, and with a larger trio or pair of peacocks. This combo worked well for me.

I kept 6 in a 75 that also had a pair of Cichlasoma boliviense, Breeding Trio of Prot. "taiwan Reef", Paor pf Cryptoheros spilurus, and some juvie tilapia sp. "mamfue". The tank was fine, but the polits bred less frequently.

I'd say 30 long may be tight, but a 40 breeder is do-able.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

while the 33 long is a good tank i dont know how well suted it is for full size mbuna. i kept 14 demasoni in one but even those as dwarves werent full grown and were quite active. the largest of those was probably 2.5 inches.

since you are getting 8 pilots who are mbuna you will need more room in my opinion than a 30 gallon. a trio most likely would be fine in a 30 but because of the number of fish i say no less than a 55.
