Thanks for the reply Nuchal Man. I guess I have a while to go for complete color. The male hasn't made any spawning advances yet to the females. At times he will lose the yellow completely and turn a light blue and the vertical bars darken a little. :)

In my experience these along with the rest of the closely related species in the Metriaclima flavifemina group take much longer to reach full color. For me started to change around 2.5" however didn't lose all the yellow until around 4". However, they will breed at a much smaller size.

This species. was a fish of the month and there is a lot of good info for this species in profiles section on this site.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

Has anyone kept this species? I have a two and half inch male that appears to be changing. Just wondering at approx what size do they acquire full color? He is in a 75 gallon tank with five females and ten P. acei that are about his size. :thankyou: :)
