Cynotilapia aren't carnivores, they are omnivores.  In the wild, Cynotilapia feed on plankton which is made up of algae and small invertebrates mostly.  I feed mine a spirulina-based flake only (presently) and they grow and breed just fine - but I have fed them flake and NLS pellet in the past.

Fish don't reed books. They'll eat whatever you feed them. Does that mean you should feed strict veggies, probably not but 1 or 2 days a week with veggie flakes isn't going to do any harm and might actually be good for them as well.

It says on the cichlid forum website that these fish are carnivores, is this true?  Does that mean that if you keep them you should not feed them the typical feed of spirulina algae?
