Need your Advice - New 180 Gallon set up

The fish that you are interested in should work fine.  The Dolphin and Ahli are tough enough to deal with Mbuna.  I wouldn't do Peacocks; they're usually to docile to survive the frantic pace of a mostly Mbuna tank.

The inspiration for my 180 gallon tank came from this article:
www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/all-male_malawi.php

I was going for an all-male hap & peacock tank but then I read the second page of the above article "All-Male Mixed Tank" and started adding a couple non-haps.
This is my stock list:
Peacocks: Rubescens, Jake hongi, Lwanda, Firefish, Dragon Blood, Maleri Is
C.boyleri
C. Virginalis Gold
C. chrysonotus
L. caeruleus
O.lithobates (2)
P.phenochilus
Protomelas sp. “Steveni Taiwan” (Taiwan Reef)
C.leptosoma
Cynotilapia afra (Nkhata Bay)
Metriaclima callainos (OB)
Syn.Petricola (3)
Ancistrus (2)

I'll post a few pictures on the fish pix section.

Thank you for the comments thus far.  I would be open to keeping the Kenyi or others in my 30 gal tank if it would give me more options in the new tank.

Thanks again

Someone Kill Me, I (shudder) agree with Slover, and the rest of the guys, I had Mbuna for over 10 years and IMHO, they are way too rowdy for the Peacocks.

But if this is your showpiece, you may want to thin out the 30, and stock fresh. The guys can help you with the best mixes, as I am New World Smart Guy, and tons of species have come along since I was Old World dedicated.

I am not a fan of mixing peacocks and mbuna. Many mbuna are too active for the peacocks and may stress them out.

You can add quite a few mbuna, by favorite combo, are demasoni, yellow labs, and albino socolofi. That gives you a color scheme of blue yellow and white. These 3 fish will also not cross breed.

As far as the current fish in the tank, I am not certain if they will cross or not. If you have no intrest in breeding and dont plan on distributing the fry then cross breeding isnt something you would worry about.

Hello,

I'm a new member to GCCA and have enjoyed reading many of your posts and have found them to be very helpful.  I recently purchased a 180-gallon tank that I will be setting up next week (purchased used from one of the GCCA classifieds).  I plan to put at least 100 lbs of Texas Holey Rock plus a lot of other rocks to create caves and places for them to enjoy.  I will have a nice filter set-up, which should over filter the tank.

I currently own a 30 gal that is overstocked even though they all get along, so the move to the new tank is much needed.  I'm looking to add color to our new 180 so my kids and wife can enjoy them as much as I do.

I'm asking for your help in terms of what fish would be good addition to the new tank that will work well with my current fish.

My current 30-gallon holds the following fish:
Albino Cichlid 3 Females and 1 Male
Kenyi 3 Females and 1 Male
Malawi Golden Cichlid 3 Females and 1 Male
Red Zebra
2 Bristlenose Plecos

By reading your previous posts/suggestions to others, I have interest in the following fish but would like to get some feedback from all of you.  I welcome other suggestions.
Yellow Labs (how many should I get)
Red Zebras
Ruby Red
Electric Blue Ahil or Mori Blue Dolphins
Afra Cobue
Can I get any Peacocks? It seems like some members do not recommend this while others say it’s possible.  Not sure if it could work in the 180 set up.

I plan to attend the swap meet next month and hope to add to my collection.  I would welcome any of your suggestions on what would be a good addition to the tank and how many of each fish I should consider.

Thank you again in advance for all of your comments.

Greg
