What is a blueberry zebra?

11 years 3 months ago #19850 by Vegasdays101
I have fish from the one pictured above, not saying this is indeed the correct species name but The females are almost white with just a few blue blotches.

This is the female above

Male here

The males spots get darker with age and/or aggression, the females usually are around this shade or not as bright. I only had a couple clutches from the parent fish and while in another tank (away from the male) recouping (so I thought), the female got beat up and later died in a hospital tank.

If you know a better species this may be let me know. I have found them at least twice with this name  but more times than not I find what looks to me like a blueish ob zebra

Are you sure they are Blueberry Zebra and not regular OB Zebra? The Blueberry females are a little orange, but not enough that I'd say they were close to looking like a marmalade. There is a non-OB fom of this fish, but I've not seen them for sale.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

Does anyone know where to find more of a similar strain? I kept a male and a female from a spawn however long ago but would like some more in the 2-3" range.  I always seem to find them with a little to alot of orangy brown, Like marmalade. I found someone in TN, and a buddy and I got 7 between us but they were all males!

Thanks

Nate

He's a great addition to my tank. Unfortunately, he's better at feeding time than some of the others. I'm afraid he may be getting fat.

Not a hybrid, but a natural occurring OB morph of Metriaclima sp. "blue". Blueberry Zebra is just a trade name. I've not seen the normal form of this fish.

It is supposedly a different species of zebra and is supposed to be unique because both the normal and the OB form lack black pigmentation.

I traded my OB peacock for a blueberry zebra. Just wondering if it is a hybrid too or what the scientific name is. I don't plan on breeding, it's in my all-male tank. He looks pretty good next to the pheno.
