but they still guarding the leaf.

Congrats and good luck! My experience with acara is that they do breed young with much smaller batches and aren't always the greatest parents the first couple batches when young. After that they do become pretty good parents with good success. Much heartier and seem better genetically than the Electric Blue Rams and Jack Dempseys.

The one thing to remember though just like a lot of the "electric" morph is that two electric blues will normally result in normal offspring that carry the gene rather than express the gene physically. If you do change your mind and intend on doing any breeding, I'd add a couple normal blue acara to the mix.

Congratulations on your spawn! I recently added my 5 to my 75 gallon planted tank. They have been in there since the January swap and the group has spawned 4 times already on the anubis leaf. I have 1 fry @ 1/4 in left from 1st spawn and about 6 tiny fry from the 3rd. I lost the second batch because I didn't pull them. The 4th batch hasn't hatched yet. The males are almost 4in while females are 2 to 2.5 inches.

hey guys,
got interesting situation, just bought some elec blue acara's, they where on sale at of all places pet supplies 2-3" for $7 each, so I bought the 5 they had, these are lil guys.
I have a planted 190g tank lots of plants, tetra's, geo juri's, a few pictus cats,
decided to add the acara for there color aspect, and they do add a bit of excitement to the tank, not to the other fish but amongst themselves, constant bickering.
well I had them for just about 5-6 days,i noticed 2 bossy lil males going at, lip locking and tugging looking all tuff at 2-1/2 inches.
today I was observing the one particular pair defending this one leaf off of a Anubis plant, they pounced on the other acara but seem to ignore the tetras and when the geos come thru the acara scatter to the wind sort to speak.
but after dropping a endo scope into the tank to get a closer look at the area I noticed eggs on the leaf a rough guess about 40-50 tops.
I was under the impression they would not be up to breeding until about 3-4"?
was not my intension to breed them, but what the survival rate be at such a small clutch?
and has anyone bred these before? what should I expect from these lil guys?

thanks
joe
