Problem with my P. Nyerei male

7 years 7 months ago #31739 by dakwas1940
I have seemed to correct my problem. I have added 4 more Cichlids to my tank and this has stop my problem child for now. It was funny to watch the intro of the new fish. The Nyerei came out fast from the back of the tank and stoped dead when he saw the new kids, He did look confused and swam away. Only time will tell.

Dennis,
Since you are a member make sure to come to next months meeting kent is a Victorian expert.

I have never had P. Nyerei however from the people I have spoken to and the research that I have done they can sometimes be pretty mean.

Aggression can be controlled through different techniques.
1. Heavy decorations lots of territories
2. No decorations no territories
3. Have dither fish faster bigger or tougher
4. Heavy populated tank so the fish has trouble focusing his aggression
5. Lightly populated tank.
Etc

Ultimately as you are just getting back into cichlids or the hobby, if you are not to heavily attached to him the easiest way might be to list him on the classifieds.

Peacocks (the aulonocara) are usually a lot less aggressive than victorians and do better with the milder haps. Even yellow labs I feel are tougher than most peacocks.

As for the P Nyerei they are a Victorian and might due better with some of the tougher mbuna.

Hopefully some other people will chime in here.

For decorations going to a landscaping store and picking a bunch of rocks to heavily decorate your tank might be an option as well.

Let me know you want the name of a place and I can look it up.

I am a newbie and I need some help with my P. NYEREI PYTHON IS male. I got my first Cichlids this past December. I have a 55 gallon tank with the following fish:
5 - Yellow Labs
1 - P. NYEREI PYTHON IS
1 - A. Eureka Jacobfreiberg – male
1 - A. Mamelala Lemon Jake – male
The fish have been together for about 4 weeks and getting along great. About 3 days ago the P. NYEREI PYTHON IS started chasing the other fish around and now has them corralled in one part of the tank. I have moved things around in the tank to see if that may help, but no it didn’t. Any help would be appreciated.
