Cichlid scratching?

I do 30-40% water change once a week.  I checked all my nitrates and everything, everything looks to be normal.  I did add some salt a few days ago and did raise the temp 3 degrees.  Didn't seem to do the job, so I put green malachite/ick remover in there yesterday and am waiting to see if this works...

Its called "flashing" and could be a sign of a bug/parasite that they are trying to "scratch" off.  Raise the temp, add some salt and see if you see it diminish.  If not, may need to get some meds.

Three weeks is a long time to go between water changes, and that's what my cichlids do when I get lazy. I think the nitrates build up too much, so I do at least 25% water change and add a little salt. Then do  it again in a couple of days. I don't want to change  conditions too rapidly. If you have gravel in your tank, be sure to use a gravel cleaning siphon.

I noticed a few of my cichlids keep 'itching' themselves along rocks and sand in my tank. Not sure if this is normal or something to be worried about, any help would be great thanks!
