2 New Species of Amphilophus from Lake Apoyo

10 years 5 months ago #28774 by Nuchal Man
I don't think it will be that difficult of a fish to get as there are some exporters in Nicaragua. I think we will see a similar trend with the other Amphilophus of Nicaragua as far as them hitting the market.

The hardest part about getting the fish from a collectors standpoint is that these fish are so similar to each other and what really separates them is there habitat preference as well as spawning location preference. Sometimes, this is the only/best way to differentiate between the fish in the wild to make sure you are actually catching what you want.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

Agreed, if the supercilius made it into the hobby, I'd be a very strong buyer.

Sam, thanks.  The supercilius species sounds/looks interesting with the violet coloring.

Two new species of Amphilophus were described from Lake Appoyo a crater lake in Nicaragua bringing the total number of Amphilophus from the lake to 6 species. The two new species are A. supercilius and A. globosus.
