id like to know how long has the tank been set up, and how long have the cons been in this tank, and how much water do you change and how often.

Do you have a spawning site for them.

Try adding some 3 to 4 inch flower pots that lay on there sides to make a cave like area for them.

I would suggest putting the flowerpots in different locations in the tank and adding about 5 of them.

What are you feeding them?

Are you looking to be involved or commited
A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road. The Chicken says, "Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!". Pig replies, "What would we call it?". The Chicken responds, "How about ham-n-eggs?" The Pig thinks for a moment and says, No thanks. I'd...

I was told convicts breed as soon as they get together . Well their not ! What am I doing wrong ? There are several males and females in my 100 gal tank and a few are at least 3" . And the females are getting fat . I've made water changes and still nothing and water is good at 78 deg. Any help you may give me ?

Oscars are big, but very docile fish. The convicts will hammer them once they are protecting eggs and fry. Convicts are arguably the BEST parents in the cichlid world. Despite their small size they are extremely capable and fearless parents.

And whomever told you they would be great tankmates, I feel is lacking in fish knowledge in my humble opinion. I have owned both species for 25+ years, have bred convicts and convict types more times than I can remember. I have personally watched one pair of convicts with free swimmers that were at best 2.5" ea hold a 8" red devil in the corner of a 30 long.

If they breed, they will hurt your Oscars.

:( How will they wreak the Oscars ? They are working great together . When I feed the tank the Oscars are at the top and the Con's belowing them . I read somewhere that they would be good tank mate's . What am I missing ?

They're going to wreck the Oscars. Please remove them. Oscars are gentle giants.

They will breed shortly if there are males and females. Cons are good parents, so let them take care of the fry till they are free swimming, then go and use your syphon hose to suck out 50%. Don't take out all of them, leave some for them to parent. If you take all of them they might squabble.

Good luck

I have several pairs of Convicts in a 100 gallon tank with 3 small oscars. Trying to get them to lay eggs but it's going slow. But my question is once the lay should I remove the eggs from the tank ? And if not and wait for the to hatch how should I get them out ? What about a gravel cleaner and suck them out . ;)
