I'll go along with red tiger on this whole heartedly.  Argentea don't like other similar shaped or colored cichlids. They usually tend to kill them after they reach about 6 inches. My experience is that torpedo shaped, non-silvery cichlids have a reasonable chance with them, if they have a place to escape to.  Vieja or Paratheraps seem to be considered competition  and are doomed. I have 2 argentea in a 150 gal with a few smaller Herichthys pantostictus and are mostly ignored.  When I tried to keep argentea with any high bodied cichlids, the argentea ended up being the sole resident of any 150 gal or less sized tank (including other argentea).

I have kept Festae, Rhytisma, Menarambo, Bifasciatus, Maculicauda, Friedrichsthalli, Cyanoguttatus, Carpintis, Oscars, Salvini, Red Tiger Motaguense, loisellei, Dovii, and a variety of Herichthys species presently and in the past. Only troubles was when the Argentea, Bifas, and maculicauda reached about 8 inches they started messing with each other.

I have my V. Argentea in a 125g with V. Synspilum, V. Regani, Bala Sharks, and Rainbow Sharks. There are about 15 Vieja species in the tank and have been growing up together from 1.5in to now almost 4in. Obviously I can't keep this many in a 125g for much longer. The only fish I have lost is an EBJD that was bigger than most of them but he was killed. In my tank the 3 Bala Sharks are 5in+ and are good dithers since they are the fastest fish in the tank. I know most people will disagree and say I shouldn't have that many in there together but I have not lost any Vieja. I do plan on seperating them and into species only tanks so that I do not get any to cross breed.

As far as other species, I have seen people have Green Terrors, Red Terrors, and Jaguars in tanks with Argentea but I think that could be dangerous. And even my set up would probably only work 50% of the time. I have been lucky so far. I hope this helps out.

I bought 6 of these awhile back, their still pretty small...around 3 inches. I'm moving them to a 120 soon and was wondering what other species of fish I can have in the tank with them. I have heard they are pretty aggressive.
