So they do play well with others. I'm changing up 1 of my 125's to more of a herichthys and ex-cichlasoma tank. I just need to get rid of three doviis and a couple female La Ceibas and let the herichthys catch up with the male grammy in size.

All 10 doing very well, eating like pigs on a variety of flake - krill, spiri, and an earthworm flake.  Some Capt Bob crumble one a week.  Got them in a heavily-pvc'd 75g with nice synspillum and carpintis "vontehillo".

I don't know too much about the beani...I am assuming they are A. big and B. aggressive judging by your fish tastes.  What sets them apart, why are they #1?

Yes, average size is 10-12" and they have a temper.  They are similar to haitiensis in the challenge of raising and breeding. They are very attractive - this variant is gold/yellow in color with a black honeycomb pattern throughout.  They have been hard to come by in the hobby since they are native to the Pacific side of Northern Mexico - I believe there has been previous difficulty collecting in that area.  So for me, they're number one given the challenge to keep and breed them, their good looks, and their (up until now) relative rarity in the hobby.  When I started keeping cichlids, this was considered a mysterious fish in everything I read - maybe the mystery just by itself made it #1 for me.

Easily the top of my CA fish wish list, I almost pulled the trigger early last year when this species re-emerged as being available from Rapps and other suppliers - back then, they were listed at $50 per 1 inch fish!!  Hoping the hobby would generate breeding pairs, I was optimistic that F1 supply would push the prices downward, making them a bit more available.  In 12-15 months, they did.
