They ate the fry, dopes.  I'll pull the next batch of wrigglers.

Scott was kind enough to share some fry with me at the June meeting (thank you very much). I've been growing them out in a 20H, with 9 Dovii (same size) and a spawn of BN plecos. I haven't had any problems so far, although they are due for a bigger tank. No aggression...even during feeding.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

Very cool fish.

How big do these get?

When you say mild-mannered, does that mean it might be possible to keep more than one in a smaller tank (55 or 75) without them killing each other?

I really like these and the creamcicles, just not sure I've got a big enough tank.

Size for males I have raised have been up to 10" in length.  They are the least aggressive Amphilophus but can defend themselves against more aggressive fish.  Together, it depends on the fish and whether they are raised together to set their own pecking order. They can be rough on each other but also co-exist together - its always a crapshoot.  You could raise them in a 55 or 75 but ulimately they would require a six foot footprint if you had any more than a pair.

re: aggression, I say this while discovering last night that my pair lost their spawn (male again did not fertilize) and he turned on the female, scaling her a bit.  I had to pull him out of the tank.

The creamsicles are the coolest Amphilophus I have kept in terms of coloring.  I was able to move the pair late Friday into their own 75g and I divided another pair against the remaining population, hoping to they pair off as well. Don't know for sure, but I would suspect these will stay and at moderate size, up to 9" if that.  A couple people have asked about them and I expect to circulate up to 8 within the club, maybe next month.

The fry from earlier did not take - the male looked a bit distracted.  I moved the pair to a 75g and they spawned last night (as all my fish did with the storms).  Looks like a large spawn. I hope I can distribute more of this fish to others - very mild-mannered and colorful.
